RCS: A Rate Control Scheme for Real-Time Traffic in Networks with High Bandwidth-Delay Products and High Bit Error Rates

چکیده
Currently there is no control for real-time traffic sources in IP networks. This is a serious problem because real-time traffic can not only congest the network but can also cause unfairness and starvation of TCP traffic. In this paper, a new rate control scheme, RCS, is introduced for real-time traffic in networks with high bandwidth-delay products and high bit error rates. RCS is based on the concept of using dummy packets to probe the availability of network resources. Dummy packets are treated as low priority packets and consequently they do not affect the throughput of actual data traffic. Therefore, RCS requires all the routers in the connection path to support some priority policy. Simulation experiments show that in environments with high bandwidth-delay products and high bit error rates, RCS achieves good throughput performance without penalizing TCP connections.

This paper demonstrates the design of an Arrayed Waveguide Gratings (AWG) based optical switch. In the design both physical and network layer analysis is performed. The physical layer power and noise analysis is done to obtain Bit Error Rate (BER). This has been found that at the higher bit rates, BER is not affected with number of buffer modules. Network layer analysis is done to obtain perfor...

The Medium Access Control (MAC) of IEEE 802.11e defines a novel coordination function, namely, Hybrid Coordination Function (HCF), which allocates Transmission Opportunity (TXOP) to stations taking their QoS requirements into account. However, the reference TXOP allocation scheme of HCF Controlled Channel Access (HCCA), a contention-free channel access function of HCF, is only suitable for cons...

In future high-speed self-routing photonic networks based on all-optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) it is highly desirable to carry out packet switching, clock recovery and demultplexing in the optical domain in order to avoid the bottleneck due to the optoelectronics conversion. In this paper we propose a self-routing OTDM node structure composed of an all-optical router and demultiplex...
متن کاملImproved priority access, bandwidth allocation and traffic scheduling for DOCSIS cable networks
The Data Over Cable Service Interface Specifications (DOCSIS) is intended to support IP flows over HFC (Hybrid Fiber/Coax) networks with significantly higher data rates than analog modems and Integrated Service Digital Network (ISDN) links for high quality audio, video and interactive services. To support quality-of-service (QoS) for such applications, it is important for HFC networks to provid...
